Why insulate properly

The cheapest energy is the energy you never use

Insulation is the one upgrade that starts paying you back the day it is finished — and keeps paying every winter for the life of the building.

Up to 50%

of the energy used to heat and cool a home can be lost through an under-insulated, unsealed building envelope.

Actual savings vary with the age and condition of your home, your heating system and how you use it. We would rather look at your house than quote you a number from a brochure.

Lower energy bills

Heating and cooling is the largest line on an Ontario utility bill, and in an under-insulated house a large share of it goes straight outside. Sealing and insulating properly is the one home improvement that starts paying you back the day it is finished.

A healthier, more comfortable home

Air sealing stops the drafts, the cold floors and the room that is always five degrees off. It also cuts the moisture movement that leads to condensation, mould and ice damming.

A smaller footprint

Energy you never use is the cleanest energy there is. Less fuel burned every winter for the life of the building — and our spray foam uses soya-based renewable content in place of part of the petroleum-based resin.

Certified, code-compliant work

Spray foam installed to CAN/ULC-S705.2 by certified applicators, and every product specified to meet the Ontario Building Code requirements for your build.

Simple process

How a quote works

No pressure, no charge, and no quoting a house we have not looked at.

  1. 1

    Call or request a quote

Tell us what is going on with the building — cold rooms, high bills, a new build, a renovation, a contaminated attic.

  2. 2

    We come out and look

There is no substitute for getting into the attic or crawl space. We measure, check the assemblies and find the actual air leaks.

  3. 3

    You get a written quote

Itemized by area and product, with the reasoning behind each recommendation. Free, and no obligation.

  4. 4

    We schedule and install

Certified applicators, protected work areas, documented installation.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and cleanup

We show you what was done, confirm it is inspection-ready, and haul everything out.

What our customers say

15 five-star reviews on Google — published verbatim, word for word. Our overall average across all 21 is 3.9.

Just finished a project with Peter and team on our home. An area of our home was discovered to be un-insulated. Peter consulted with us and in a very timing manner solved our issue. The team did a great job, very personable and a pleasure to work with. Spray foam can be messy, not for the team at Barrie Insulation. Arrived, completed the job and even scraped the area's where over spray occurred. Highly recommend this team - True professionals.

These guys provided a very reasonable quote for some spray foam and blown in insulation, went above and beyond to get it done on our timeline (including working on a Saturday), billed according to the estimate and were great throughout the process. Very happy with their work and would definitely recommend them to others.

John Heath · Spray Foam & Blown-In · 3 years agovia Google

Peter and his team are very professional and showed up when scheduled. Helped me a great deal insulating my attic and basement crawl space. My century house is much more comfortable to live in now

Questions we get asked every week

Spray foam, blown-in or batt — how do I choose?

Match the product to the problem. Spray foam where you need an air and vapour barrier, high R-value in a shallow space, or a seal on an irregular surface — attics, rim joists, crawl spaces, cathedral ceilings. BIBS blown-in where you have standard cavities to fill completely, want sound control, or need to insulate finished walls without opening them. Batt where the framing is open, clean and standard and budget matters most. Most houses we quote get a combination, and the comparison table on our services page lays out the differences side by side.

What is R-value, exactly?

R-value measures how well a material resists heat flow — the higher the number, the slower heat passes through it. Two things get missed. First, R-value only describes conduction: it says nothing about air leaking through gaps, which in most Ontario houses is the larger problem. Second, the number on the package is the material's rating in a lab, not the wall's rating in your house. Studs conduct heat around the insulation, and every gap, compression and missed corner drops the assembly below its label. That gap between nominal and effective R-value is where good installation earns its money.

Is spray foam safe?

Cured spray foam is an inert plastic and is safe in a finished home. The precautions belong to the installation: the space is ventilated, the crew wears supplied-air respirators, and occupants stay out during application and for the manufacturer's stated re-entry period. This is exactly why the CAN/ULC-S705.2 installation standard exists and why you should only let a certified applicator spray your house.

How much will I save on my heating bill?

Enough that it is the reason most of our customers call, and not a number anyone can honestly promise you from a website. It depends on how leaky your house is right now, what you heat with, the size of the area being treated and how you run the thermostat. A poorly sealed older home with an empty attic sees a dramatic change. A ten-year-old build getting a top-up sees a modest one. We tell you which one you have after we look.

What does the quote process look like?

Call or send the form, we book a visit, and we get into the attic, basement or crawl space to see what is actually there. You get a written, itemized quote with the reasoning behind each recommendation. No obligation, no pressure, and no charge for the visit.

Do you serve my area?

We work throughout Barrie and Simcoe County — Innisfil, Orillia, Wasaga Beach, Alliston, Angus, Midland, Collingwood, Bradford and the surrounding townships — as well as the Kawartha Lakes area. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call us; if we cannot get to you we will usually know someone who can.
